Second years must pass their first-semester-second year courses.

Good news is that your scholarship runs for August - free money for vacationing!

Prague Event[edit]

In December you will go to IPP Prague for a two week event. You will be assigned one or two partners and an experiment. This event is very hard, and also an increadible opportunity to really dig into interesting research on a great training tokamak. At the end of these two weeks you will give a talk (~10 minutes per person) and will be graded based off this talk. As far as we can tell, in previous years we have been graded by the current head of the program who will not be there during the two weeks but only for the grading event.

Over the next month you will then be responsible for a written report of your research. The report is about 4 pages per person, and the grade will be merged with the one from your talk.

Cadarache Event[edit]

You will be given an email about paperwork several months before the actual event starts. Make sure to fill out the paperwork and submit it in a timely manner, email the people at Cadarache if you need an extra week for some reason. Once in Cadarache you will have two weeks doing two different projects. The first one is graded off a written report, the second one is graded off a presentation. While Cadarache itself is interesting and should be appreciated, the weeks themselves will be much more relaxed then Prague, and possibly more disappointing from a scientific standpoint.

Thesis[edit]

Write a thesis and hand in 2 printed copies of the final manuscript at the summer event. You also need to attend the summer event and present your thesis work in front of the coordinating professors and first year students. If you cannot finish your Thesis on time, you will have to present several months later, or next year.
