Equilibrium and Stability of MHD is a advanced MHD course given by Professor D. Del Sarto. The classes are heavy, but very interesting and Del Sarto is a very good, interesting and friendly professor. The topics viewed in the course are: the different MHD models and their applicability (from general equilibrium equations to the Z/Theta/Screw pinches), MHD equilibria and instabilities, Magnetic helicity and Magnetic reconnection.

Exam

The exam for this course exists out of an oral exam in which the student has to make a presentation about a random topic in MHD (eg. An instability or some kind of MHD activity), the presentation should last about +/- 30min. During and after the presentation, professor Del Sarto will ask you some additional questions related to what was seen during the course and your presentation. The questions asked are more focussed on the basics of MHD and are not too difficult (eg. When is MHD applicable, what's Alfvén theorem, ...). Del Sarto is more interested in your learning and knowing something very well, so the oral exam is comparable to a private class, if you dont know the answer to something he will help you until you have and are confident in the final answer.
