Cadarache Event
During this two-week event in Cadarache two research projects will be conducted and a visit to the ITER site will be organised. The projects are performed together with French students coming from the universities of Paris, Nancy and Marseille. Some of these students do not speak English very well so sometimes the division of work is not really equal. Moreover, the M1 students arrive on the final Thursday to meet the M2 students and watch their presentations.

General Programme
The Cadarache event consists of a visit to the ITER site on the first day, followed by 3 days of project I and one day of report writing. The weekend can be spend exploring the beautiful nature surrounding the little village of Greoux, and writing the report which needs to be handed in around Monday evening usually. In week two the first 3 days are spend on project II, followed by one day of preparing your presentation on Thursday. Thursday evening the M1's arrive at the hotel to meet the M2's. Finally, on Friday morning the M2's present their second project and in the evening usually a little dinner party is thrown for the M1 and M2 students, the French students and the coordinators.
Paperwork
You will be given an email about paperwork several months before the actual event starts. Make sure to fill out the paperwork and submit it in a timely manner, email the people at Cadarache if you need an extra week for some reason. Do not forget to bring your ID's and VISA's, without these you will not be able to enter the site.
Grading
Once in Cadarache you will have two weeks doing two different projects. The first one is graded off a written report, the second one is graded off a presentation. While Cadarache itself is interesting and should be appreciated, the weeks themselves will be much more relaxed then Prague, and possibly more disappointing from a scientific standpoint.
Funding
In order to get back the expenses of the transportation, food and accommodation, which are payed for by the students, you can apply to Fusenet for a reimbursement. This application can only be filed once per 11 months so from the 5 educational events:
- Three-day winter event in Cadarache (February, year 1)
- Three-day summer event / graduation in one of the host universities (July, year 1)
- Two-week joint-experimentation in Prague (December, year 2)
- Two-week joint-practicum in Cadarache (February, year 2)
- Three-day summer event / graduation in one of the host universities (July, year 2)
Only two can be reimbursed by Fusenet if they are 11 months apart. The reimbursement is proportional to the duration and the distance. In almost all cases it is recommended to apply for the two Cadarache events. The application has to be submitted at least 2 weeks before the actual start of the educational event. The educational event has to start no later than 6 months after application. Also keep in mind that the distance between the university where the student is subscribed (i.e. the home university) and the event should be at least 100 kilometers.
Accomodation
Accommodation is organized for you in ‘Résidence La Licorne’, Chemin des Riayes, 04800 Gréoux-les-Bains (http://www.residence-la-licorne.com/cote-provence.php) in shared apartments (3 students / 2 bedrooms apartment). Gréoux-les-Bains is a small thermal bath & holiday resort 10 km from Cadarache. The apartments are fully furnished (with bed sheets, bath towels), a wifi internet connection is available simultaneously for all. The organizers of the Fusion EP programme have arranged that you can claim the housing expenses to Fusenet for reimbursement. If you arrive after 6pm the reception will be closed and you can not get the keys to your apartment, therefore make sure the early arrivals pick up the keys of the late arrivals.
Food
It is also important to know that you will not receive a stipend for food. You will be responsible for cooking or buying all of your meals (both options are expensive). Additionally, the apartments are mostly equipped with things one needs to live, except for a few necessities: no toilet paper, soap, sponges, or hair dryer. Prepare to bring these things with you or purchase upon arrival. Each flat has an equipped kitchen and the 'residence' is within walking distance to the village centre, where you will find the necessary shops. On week days, lunches will be taken at the Cadarache cantine for an approximate rate of 2,50 €.
Arrival in Greoux-les-Bains M2 students
There are only 3 busses a day that ride to and from Greoux-les-Bains and no busses on Sunday so make sure to catch your bus! Moreover, there are only two supermarkets that close at 7pm usually, therefore if your bus arrives past 7pm you will not have any food for dinner or breakfast that day.
On Saturday ? February 2021:
- If you come by TGV, you will arrive in the Aix-TGV station. From there, you will have to take the LER27 bus (final destination: Riez) at 14:30.
- Those already in Marseille or arriving in Marseille-St-Charles railway station will take the LER27 bus from Marseille St-Charles coach station (at the end of the railway station building) at 14:00 or 17:00 (final destination: Riez).

- In Gréoux, get off the LER27 bus at 'Le Passy' stop. See the map below to find your way from the bus stop to the 'Résidence Côté Provence'.
- Note that LER 27 is the only bus going to Gréoux (in particular do not get on any bus going to 'Gare de Manosque-Gréoux' since it will drop you 15 km away from the residence).
