Prague is undoubtedly the liveliest city of Central Europe. Great numbers of clubs, bars, pubs or even just traditional restaurants that become temples of beer after lunch are everywhere to be found.

By following the events of OhMyPrague!, MADPRG, StudentZone and different ESN Sections (ISC for CTU and ESN CU for Charles Uni), you are guaranteed to find a lot of things to do, a lot of places to go and a lot of people to meet, no matter how you like spending your time. Ranging from chilling in parks with beer, ice-skating and going to watch ice hockey games to having beer meetings, beerpong tournaments and various amazing trips, you will have a great time for sure.

Below, you can find lists to every kind of place you might need or like to go, either during your M2 year or during the Prague event.
Restaurants
Since there are plenty of Czech restaurants everywhere with their cuisine being the same quality almost everytime, you will not find many on this list but if you go to any local Restaurant which is not in a touristic area (around Old Town Square for example) you are guaranteed to eat cheap and well. One useful thing is that every restaurant in the Czech Republic has a website where you can find its menu.

The 2nd year has several pre-determined ECTS, currently 48 out of 60 to be exact. That leaves the option for only 12 ECTS to be chosen as courses. One option could be to choose ITER and the Accompanying Programme for 4 ECTS along with an Advanced Laboratory Project for 12 ECTS. The former usually requires you to give a detailed 30-min presentation about new developments on a certain engineering topic on ITER (e.g. Heating methods) while the latter can be quite complicated. Other options can be found on a list posted each year by the CTU Nuclear Dept., which you can acquire by contacting your local coordinator Jan Mlynar (mlynar@ipp.cas.cz).

Advanced Laboratory Project
This project requires you to select a topic upon which to perform research on the GOLEM tokamak which is located in the CTU. The complicated part comes with the fact that most aspects of this project require you to take initiative. You will need to search on the GOLEM wiki for past projects in order to choose a topic, or think of a new one and discuss its feasibility with your supervisor for the course. Therefore, it is recommended to also try and find a personal supervisor for your project with the help of the course's supervisor (Vojtech Svoboda : Vojtech.Svoboda@fjfi.cvut.cz) to help you throughout this project. This project is supposed to last both semesters (hence the 8 ECTS) and usually requires an initial presentation upon the chosen topic, a written report and a presentation in the end along with the extensive lab measurements and data analysis that you will perform in the meantime, unless agreed upon otherwise.

GOLEM is a great opportunity for students to try and experiment hands-on in the oldest currently operational tokamak in the world, which can also be operated remotely, thus serving as an excellent educational tool. This project can be very interesting but do not underestimated the bulk of work it requires. If your chosen thesis topic is heavy and difficult, it might be better to try and search for alternative courses to replace it with. In any case, it can not be stressed enough that you need to work and take a lot of initiatives on your own, no matter the amount of supervisors available.

Coming to Prague might not prove the easiest task of all, but fear not; this Wiki is here!

Sometimes, it might prove easier to fly to a nearby airport such as Budapest, Munich, Vienna etc and then secure a train/bus to Prague. If however, you manage to find a not-so-expensive flight to Prague, getting to your destination in the city is simple. You will most likely need to grab bus 119 which will take you to Metro Line A (Green) which then connects you to most parts of the city. In any case, Google Maps works perfectly with the city's transport system and you will realize yourself that every metro,bus and tram is 99% of the time...on time!

Useful Phrases & Words
You will find that Czech is a hard language but you will still be able to learn the basics.
----
Hi = Ahoj, Cau
----
Hello (but actually Good Day) = Dobry Den
----
Thank You = Djekuji
----
Thanks = Diky
----
Please = Prosim
----
Excuse me = Pardon
----
Goodbye = Nashledanou
----
One beer please = Jedno Pivo Prosim
----
I would like (and order the dish/drink) = Ja Si Dam
----
I don't speak Czech = Nemluvim Cesky
----
Do you speak English? = Mluvite Anglicky?

Transport Card
Buying a transport card is very cheap and practical as you just need to keep it on you, no validation required. Once you manage to get a student ID or an ISIC card from the Czech Technical University (CTU or CVUT in Czech) headquarters CTU Survival Guide, you are eligible to buy a student transport card which can be for 1,3 or 12 months. Usually, buying three trimester transport cards for the approximately 9 months you'll be there, is a bit cheaper than a year's card but that depends on your stay and travelling.

Normally, getting an ISIC card is recommended as it offers discounts in many spots and services of the city (trains and buses to other cities, great food spots, bars etc).

In order to get your Transport Card, you just need to go to a Metro Station that sells them with your student ID / ISIC card and ask for it, in the office inside the station. Mustek metro station is probably the easiest spot as it is located in the center but a list of stations that sell cards can be found online.

Accommodation
Prague has various different universities and each university has its own dormitory. Normally, by contacting your local coordinator (Jan Mlynar for the moment : mlynar@ipp.cas.cz) you can receive a list of dorms to apply for housing, but it is recommended to do so quite early during the year, favorably in the spring months before your arrival. CTU's dormitories in Masaryk are not very far from the center and are of good quality. You need to know however that in most dormitories, you will be sharing your room with someone else, unless there is a single room option and you apply early for it. Otherwise, you can arrange with a fellow Fusion-EP student to share a room.

In case you are looking to rent a room in a house with flatmates, Facebook is the place for it. Dozens of different groups for housing can be found, just by searching keywords as "Rent Flat Prague". The process is not the simplest as in any city, but fear not. If you message several people that post ads about renting a room and visit several flats per day, you will be able to find a place within a week while staying at a hostel or a cheap AirBnB. Always be careful and never agree to make money transaction without a contract or before visiting the place; like in every big city, the scammers can be plenty.

In Nancy you are obliged to pay for the CVEC tax, the coordinators will help you with this and the Master will you pay you back. This tax allows you free access to all sport imaginable: dancing, yoga, boxing, swimming, climbing, tennis, ... The complete list can be found on the website of SUAPS. For some activities, you need to start attending the courses very early since they will stop accepting new students at a certain point. Personally, I really recommend taking salsa and bachata courses. There are two salsa clubs in Nancy with a great international community.

Moreover, Nancy has a great ESN community. When you arrive go get a membership card at their office and join the welcome week together with the students from your French course, it is a great way to kick-start your social life!

The European Master in Nuclear Fusion Science and Engineering Physics (FUSION-EP) programme builds, with its wide network of universities and institutes, upon excellent competencies in the area of high-level multinational research-oriented education in fusion-related engineering physics. The programme operates in close relation to the research activities of the partners, and with a well-integrated language and cultural experience.

Background
Magnetic confinement fusion is a field aiming at delivering a sustainable, carbon-free massive energy production track within a few decades. The field has changed gear since the ITER International Organisation has been set up and started to build the ITER device in the EU.
The FUSION-EP programme, created in 2006, aims at training the next generations of magnetic confinement fusion physicists and engineers. Since the academic year 2019/2020, FUSION-EP shifted the coordination from University of Gent to Aix-Marseille University in order to put forward new objectives.

Introduction
The Fusion-EP master is a two-year international master focused on Nuclear Fusion. Each student resides at two universities in two different countries, 60 credits at university A, 60 credits in university B including the 30 credits for the master’s dissertation. The universities are located in Madrid, Gent, Stuttgart, Marseille, Nancy and Prague. Moreover, there are two winter events in Cadarache to visit the ITER and WEST Tokamak, one joint experimentation and analysis session in Prague where the COMPASS Tokamak is located. Furthermore all students meet twice in the yearly summer event, once as a master 1 student and once defending the dissertation as a master 2 student. An overview of all deadlines and events is found here.

What follows is the official introduction from the UGent website. The studies in Engineering Physics are devoted to the technical applications of physics and strongly supported by the research activities in the different laboratories within the Consortium. By combining the basic concepts of a degree in engineering with the essentials of an education as an engineering physicist, these studies seek to train engineers capable of performing or leading technical and scientific research in universities, research establishments or industry. The engineering component of the studies makes the physics engineer familiar with the analysis, design and optimization of new and existing systems, products, machines, materials etc., for which simplification to manageable system descriptions (from rules of thumb to expert systems) is essential. In the physics component the reductionist approach holds centre stage; here experiments and mathematical modelling seek to reduce physical phenomena to their very essence and to discover the physical laws applicable. Even though the approach has a more philosophical slant, the rigorous attitude is essential, and a physical theory should stand a validation by experiment. Physics engineers are trained, first and foremost, for R&D purposes. Their wide-ranging education makes them fit for all companies and research establishments where interdisciplinary R&D requires in-depth knowledge of physics. They will constitute a substantial percentage of the large number of additional researchers required for the establishment of the EU as the best centre of excellence in the world. Both components of the studies especially qualify the physics engineer to fill executive jobs at a later stage.

Applying
For the academic year starting in September 2020, fifteen scholarships, including the participation fees and a monthly allowance, will be awarded to the applicants with the highest profile. Among these scholarships, about twelve will be awarded to applicants from Partner Countries. Applying for the scholarship has to be done usually before mid-January on the official website of the Fusion-EP master. Students can also enroll without a scholarship, usually with alternative funding. In this case the tuition fee is €4.500 per year, so €9.000 in for the complete master, for students coming from programme countries. The programme countries are all EU Member States and Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey. For students coming from all other countries the tuition fee is €9.000 per year, so €18.000 for the complete master. Students who pay the complete tuition fee are fully insured, and accommodation for the 2 Summer Events, 2 Winter Events in Cadarache and the Joint experimentation and analysis session in Prague are included. Applying without a scholarship has to be done usually before mid-May For students who do not live in programme countries, make sure to apply for a VISA in time, without a VISA you will not be able to start the Master in September. Check out the official website for the exact dates.

There are three types of funding:
* Scholarships that give you a monthly allowance
* Educational events that get reimbursed by Fusenet
* Additional housing or thesis support

Make sure to check out the official website of the Fusion-EP Master for more funding possibilities.

FuseNet
The FuseNet Association supports mobility for Summer and Winter Events, and Joint courses. In order to get back the expenses of the transportation, food and accommodation, which are payed for by the students, you can apply to Fusenet for a reimbursement. This application can only be filed once per 11 months so from the 5 educational events:
* Three-day winter event in Cadarache (February, year 1)
* Three-day summer event / graduation in one of the host universities (July, year 1)
* Two-week joint-experimentation in Prague (December, year 2)
* Two-week joint-practicum in Cadarache (February, year 2)
* Three-day summer event / graduation in one of the host universities (July, year 2)
Only two can be reimbursed by Fusenet if they are 11 months apart. The reimbursement is proportional to the duration and the distance. In almost all cases it is recommended to apply for the two Cadarache events. The application has to be submitted at least 2 weeks before the actual start of the educational event. The educational event has to start no later than 6 months after application. After the event, proof of attendance, transportation and accommodation need to be uploaded to Fusenet. Also keep in mind that the distance between the university where the student is subscribed (i.e. the home university) and the event should be at least 100 kilometers.

EMJMD Scholarships
About 15 two-years EMJMD Scholarships can be obtained during the selection procedure. The application deadline is around January, check the official website for the exact date. Eligibility to these scholarships is defined according to the Erasmus Program.

Erasmus+ support
Students who follow a first Master year in an EU university are eligible - regardless of their nationality - for regular Erasmus+ support for their second Master year of around €300 per month. Applications need to be filed during Master 1, usually before February.

Overpoort
Situated right in the middle of all university campusses, the overpoort is the main place for going out. The whole street is filled with pubs and fastfood restaurants, and the typically Belgian 'frituren'!. There's also a bowling alley, a couple of halls where the different student unions occasionally hold a Cantus (try to attend this at least once while in Ghent!) and much more.

Other clubs
Many other clubs and pubs are spread all throughout the city, some notable ones: Kompass Klub, Charlatan (and the rest of the old city centre), de Karper, de Omgekeerde Wereld, Defoo, ...

Erasmus Student Network (ESN)
TO DO

Student Unions
Almost every field of study at the university has its own student union. These host parties and activities (almost) weekly, and are usually also the first acces point for study assistance and the distribution of textbooks. Aside from the unions connected to the faculties and the university (of which VTK and maybe WiNA will be the most important to you), there are also loads of other unions, sometimes connected to a certain Flemish region or just not connected to anything else at all and made purely for fun (shoutout to De Parkwacht xx). Some of the biggest events for students are also hosted by the unions, such as Student Street Soccer, the 'twaalfurenloop' (twelve hour run) and many more.

Every student union is run by the "praesidium", which is a group of students, each with a specific role, that can be recognized by wearing a big ribbon on their right shoulder. The members of the union are called "commilitones" and wear a smaller ribbon on their right shoulder. Finally the union also has slaves, called "schachten", who wear a small ribbon on the left shoulder. Before you join the union you are called a "feut" and only after a fraternization or baptization or "doop" in the beginning of the year you turn from a "feut" or non-member into a "schacht" or slave. These baptizations can be extremely though and almost traumatizing to really fun or really easy. From eating and being covered in the worst stuff imaginable, to a simple pub crawl or "hey, here is your ribbon". After the baptization you are sold to the members of the union. The person or people who buy you are your godmothers and godfathers and during the year that you are a slave you will have to do certain assignments for them, although the easier unions do not do this. At the end of a year there is a deforestation, which is usually a fun day of games, to go from "schacht" or slave to "commiliotoon" or member.

Only with a ribbon from a union, or a good friend inside the union, you can enter the "cantus" which is by far the best part of the student life in Gent. For 10€ you have unlimited beer all night while you sing songs, although there are many many rules on this event and breaking the rules results in ... more beer!

Usually foreign students do not join these harder kinds of unions with baptizations and slaves, since it is in essence all in Dutch. However, if you are able to befriend a member of a union before the baptization dates (in October/November) it could be possible. Luckily, it is possible to join the easier unions, there are unions for board games, tea, japan, BDSM ... who don't have slaves or baptizations and who have some English members.

84.240.246.93:

If you are from a country outside Europe or outside of the Schengen Area, it is important to start applying for a VISA as early as possible, usually around March-May if you plan on studying in Europe in September. Below you can find some guides written by former students, to get a general idea of the necessary steps to get a VISA, however remember that the VISA procedure can change every year so look up the official process on the official websites too! In case the real process is different, feel free to update the guides below :)

Home Country
Costa Rica
This guide is for Costa Rica, but probably could be used as an example of the procedure in any non-EU country. The first part of the VISA procedure must be started in your own country, at the embassy of the country where you will study during your first year. You should start this as soon as possible because it takes a lot of time, usually like three months according to the German Embassy. Each embassy has their own set of requirements, they have all that on their websites.

Visa procedure for Germany
If you want to study in Germany, you need to present the following:

* Signed application form
* Passport
* Passport pictures
* Costa Rican ID
* Admission letter
* University titles
* CV
* Proof of economic resources (scholarship or bank account information)
* Address of where you will be staying
* Proof of insurance
* 75 euros (the program can write a letter to avoid this one)

All the information can be found here.

When you get all that, you have to get an appointment and then go to the embassy.

Visa procedure for Spain
If you want to study in Spain, you need to present the following:

* Signed application form
* Passport
* Passport pictures
* Costa Rican ID
* Admission letter
* Invoice for the tuition
* Contents of the master's program (you can use the information on the EM-Fusion website)
* University titles
* Proof of economic resources (scholarship or bank account information, official authorized document if it isn't yours)
* Medical certificate (needs to be authorized by the "Colegio de Médicos" in Costa Rica, you'll need to take it there)
* Proof of criminal records (you need the international version with the stamp of the "Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores")
* Proof of insurance (very important: it must cover the cost of repatriation in case of accident or death)
* Payment of the fees

All the information can be found here.

On their website, you can get an appointment to deliver all the documents in person. Finally, they will approve or deny the application after several weeks.

These are only two specific examples. However, the procedure is generally the same for all the countries involved on the master's program. The previous lists could be useful to get an idea of the type of documents that are required to submit the visa applications.

Russia, Central Asia region, Georgia and etc.
Students who are going to study in Belgium from Russia and nearby countries from Central Asian region can apply only in Belgian embassy in Moscow. Also before COVID you required to travel to Moscow and apply by yourself (physical presence required for fingerprints), nevertheless due to COVID situation it's possible to apply by post (only by DHL).

To obtain D type Schengen visa you can follow the link to get way more info: . You can find list of documents and apply in that website.

After geting an visa, you will need to apply for residence permit in the country where are you going to study, because Belgian embassy in Moscow gives you D-type visa only for maximum 180 days. So be prepared to go to goverment migration instance after starting your education and make sure that your residencing is not illegal.

Extended Residence Permit Application
Madrid (2016)
To get a VISA in Madrid you need to file an Extended Residence Permit Application. Start the process about a week after living in Madrid. Receive the papers for getting the Residents permit from the OFICINA DE EXTRANJERÍA DE CANILLEJAS Información general at Calle San Faustino, 23 (esquina a C/ Sebastian Francisco, 28022 - Madrid Plano de localización Teléfonos: 91 272 95 00). You would be asked to make the payment of 15 Euros at the bank and submit one of the papers at the bank. A small piece of paper containing a link for making an appointment at the office of foreign nationals office for submitting all the documents that are required by them would be given. This paper also requires that you include the following documents, after they have been procured you would only need an appointment date.

* Passport Photo
* Copy of Passport
* Certificate of Home address (Certificado de empadronamiento) which you can easily apply for at the town hall by just going to the office near the Moncloa Metro station.

Following the link on the piece of paper which was provided at the earlier office address leads to a website where you do the following:

# Select Madrid and the given (INDENTITADAD DE EXTRANJERO [HUELLA]) for page 1.
# Give in all details as asked and accurately for page 2.
# The system identifies you as ¨"Name Family Name" with "Passport number" for page 3.
# Select the office as mentioned / or any other office since it doesn't matter, preferably an office close to your accommodation or university for page 4.
# Provide more information like the phone number etc and the email ID for page 5.
# On accepting the change in details, you will get the same response from the system which is that an appointments is available before the expiry of your current current 90 day VISA. The date, time and place for the appointment will be made clear and take a print of this to carry with you on the day of the appointment. I attach the bank papers and the piece of paper with the link and address for your reference.
